I worked in a call center, then a nonprofit as a marketing director, which was a job I held for seven years. During that time, I kept feeling like I was missing something. Something creative.

To Like or Not to Like on Facebook, That is the Question…

by Attorneys Online, Inc. @ Attorneys Online, Inc.

Social media is a valuable tool for any business and not simply for promotional aspects. It is a tool that helps to develop genuine connections with audiences and engage with them. Though, that connection is difficult to maintain when your audience is confused or turned off by how you are engaging with them. Social media is an aspect of digital marketing that is constantly evolving and reshaping itself, so it can be hard to keep up with trends and etiquette (and yes, there is definitely such a thing as social media etiquette). And the craziest part is that etiquette changes depending on who your audience is. What works well with one audience can offend or be criticized by another. To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of the “Do’s and Don’ts” of social media engagement. DON’T post content that is all doom and gloom. Audiences don’t want to log...

by Steve C @ The My Wife Quit Her Job Podcast

Today I’m thrilled to have Joe Jo on the show. Joe and his partner Bart started JustKidding Films on YouTube back in 2007 and today have over 1.5 million subscribers. Not only that. In addition to Just Kidding Films, they also have 3 other channels JKParty, JKGamer and JKNews which all boast anywhere from 700K-1.5million subscribers each. All told, I think the 4 channels have a combined 4 million total subscribers which is incredible. If you follow me you know that when my online store was featured on the today show, I had 7X the revenue that day and the today show only gets 1.74M viewers per day. Think about it this way, a lot of cable and network TV shows don’t even have this high of a viewership so it’s pretty ridiculous that they have such a large audience. In fact, they are pretty much running a popular TV network ...

Facebook Ads Vs Google Adwords – Which Ad Platform Is Right For Your Ecommerce Business?

by Steve C @ MyWifeQuitHerJob.com

The hardest part about running your own ecommerce store is driving targeted traffic to your products. Unlike selling on marketplaces like Etsy, Ebay, and Amazon, you are responsible for finding your own customers. If you’ve only ever sold on a marketplace like Amazon, you probably have no idea how to launch a store because you don’t have the skills to advertise. After all, Amazon does most of the work for you and leaves you highly dependent on THEIR traffic. To create a strong ecommerce brand in the long run, you NEED to have your own web presence. You NEED to be in control of your own product messaging. You NEED to own your customer list. But what you probably don’t know is where to start when it comes to generating your own sales. Black swans are rare and unpredictable events that change the course of history. We can't predict them. But when caught and used right, they become birds of happiness influencing our work and life.

Content marketing was a black swan itself. Once appeared, it became sensational, visible, and changed digital marketing processes. In the same way as for black swans, we've found simplistic explanations for its power post factum:

Does Your Law Firm Have Online Reviews?

by Attorneys Online, Inc. @ Attorneys Online, Inc.

If your law firm is not concentrating on getting positive online reviews on Google+, Facebook and Yelp, your website and business will suffer. Whether you like it or not, most people looking for an attorney online will read reviews before choosing what law firm to call. A number of studies show that consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations, and most consumers read online reviews before purchasing a product. Further, in addition to the consumers themselves, Google uses online reviews when its algorithms are calculating which law firm websites will be in the top spots for business listings and organic listings. This means that a lack of reviews will hurt your search engine optimization, your organic placement and ultimately, your bottom line. How Do Law Firms Get Clients to Write Positive Reviews? It’s hard to ask a client to write a review—we get it. However, when you have...

The Top 9 Mistakes Of Ecommerce Store Site Design (And How To Fix Them)

by Steve C @ MyWifeQuitHerJob.com

Designing a high converting website is one of the hardest aspects of selling online. Not only do you have to step inside your customer’s brain and speak his or her language but you also have to guide them to the right product and close the sale. After critiquing almost a hundred websites over the course of running my online store course, I’ve discovered that most people make the same fundamental mistakes with their site design. Here are the most common problems and how to fix them. Mistake #1: No One Can Tell What You Sell You should always design your website with the assumption that no one knows who you are or what you sell. In fact, when someone lands on your site for the first time, you have about 5 seconds to educate them or they’ll leave. After all, if they don’t know what your product does, ...

Is The Customer Always Right Just BS? How Would You Handle These Customer Service Dilemmas?

by Steve C @ MyWifeQuitHerJob.com

If you’ve been selling physical products online for any length of time, chances are you’ve hit a few customer service snafus along the way. Even if you run a robust operation, processing large volumes of orders inevitably results in mistakes and situations that are beyond your control. For example, most online stores rely on 3rd party shippers to deliver their products to the end customer. Well what happens when there’s a breakdown with your shipper? When something doesn’t get delivered, is it the shipper’s fault or yours? When a customer makes a complaint, do you trust that they are telling the truth? With the holiday selling season right around the corner, these problems only get amplified. For example… You have to deal with customers wanting to make returns. You have to interact with frustrated people trying to make last minute purchases for their friends and loved ...

Today I’m happy to have Derek Pankaew on the show. Derek is someone who I met at the Ecommerce Fuel Live conference and it was pretty random how we started talking. I took notice and we started chatting. And as luck would have it, Derek was selling t-shirts at the time and making a killing doing it. Now if you’ve followed my blog for a while, an example that I use of what not to sell is t-shirts because it’s way too saturated. But Derek has made over 600K with a gross profit of 335K selling t-shirts online in a pretty short period of time and in this interview he shares how he did it. ...

SEO: 10 Ways to Optimize Your Online Store for the Search Engines

SEO: 10 Ways to Optimize Your Online Store for the Search Engines

MyWifeQuitHerJob.com

The eventual success of your online store will depend on several factors. Probably the single most important factor will be where and how you are indexed in the various search engines. I've compiled below a comprehensive list of items that your online store should focus on to obtain the best rankings possible. In my experience, most online stores do not follow all of the rules shown below. Implementing these 10 little SEO techniques on your own online store should give you an advantage over the competition. Make Sure All of Your Internal Links Point to the Same Domain By the same domain, I'm referring to whether you want your site to be known as http://www.yourstore.com or http://yourstore.com This is important because the search engines actually treat both urls as different sites. If you allow the search engines to index both versions of your site, you will be effectively diluting your page rankings.
