Google Shopping Keywords: How Do They Work?

by Mark Tillison @ Tillison Consulting

In a search campaign, advertisers bid on keywords, providing much more control over when ads are displayed and what the budget is spent on. Google Shopping Ads turns that approach on its head – instead, advertisers bid on their product inventory, typically provided via a compatible XML feed from their eCommerce store, via the Google Merchant […]

Landing Pages – They Are Important To Your Campaign

by Tyler Cumberford @ Factor One

Landing pages are an important element that can make or break the success of a marketing campaign. Too often I’ve seen marketing campaigns dump their ads on the home page and leave the customer to click through the page to find what they were originally looking for. Like the picture above it can feel like you asked the librarian where you can find a book and she dropped you in a great big section with hundreds of books.

Without a proper landing page, you run the risk of losing that valuable paid traffic that you brought to your site. If you’re a large clothing store and someone searches for a pair of men’s pants and your ad directs them to your homepage as the landing page they then have to look for men’s pants . . . again! Whereas it would have been just as easy for the ad to drop them on a page dedicated to men’s pants!

Facebook Advertising – Was This Worth It?

by Tyler Cumberford @ Factor One

Facebook Advertising - I wanted to take some time today to review the Facebook advertising campaign one of our clients ran for a four month period and look under the hood at some of the results.

Now, as I have discussed in the past why we don't do social media marketing, our client was actually working with another agency and asked us to set up the proper traffic and conversion tracking so they could evaluate the effectiveness of the advertising traffic in generating new leads.  The agency that they used charged $2,000 for the four-month campaign.

We decided we needed to measure 4 elements that would likely lead to a conversion, which in this case was either a phone call (with call tracking) or filling out a lead request form on the website.

AdWords Ad Rotation: How To Restore Even Ad Rotation (Workaround)

Google surprised AdWords users in May this year with their announcement that ad rotation would automatically stop and favour only the ad with highest CTR, after the ads were active for 30 days.
This sounds reasonable to some people, but for people testing ads carefully based on conversion rate and cost per conversion, the change was a 3-alarm fire.
Google's ad rotation settings will switch from 'rotate' to favor the ad with highest CTR, unless you take action. If you don't want to opt out, and you want to restore even rotation on your ads after the 90 day period, it is not a huge problem.
The method below is tweaked and tested and works just fine...

Should I Hire A Digital Marketing Agency Or A Manager?

by Tyler Cumberford @ Factor One

Hiring a digital marketing agency, especially for a small or mid-sized business can make more economical sense than to hire a full-time manager. In this article, I want to go over a few reasons why we believe this is a better course for a small business to take.

If you are like many companies trying to find the best way to market yourself and get new leads or sales online it can be a very intimidating area. Do we need a social media strategy? Can people even find us on Google? Is our webpage mobile friendly? How many people visit our web page? Should I still be advertising in the “phone book”?

These are all questions that businesses are asking every day. Unfortunately, these types of skills and expertise aren’t taught in many classes and finding someone that can fulfill this role for a company is difficult to find. We know this because we are always searching for the right talent as well.
