Contact form spam

by @ Web Designer Forum: www.webdesignerforum.co.uk

I seem to be getting a lot of contact form spam. I don't know if it is a robot or a person but sometimes only garbily gook is typed in every field (ie - hjkshdjfhdjlsdkj) and sometimes it is a sales pitch for seo. I am wondering if a robot is capable of answering the captcha on the form and automatically fill it out? If so, is there another user friendly way to weed out the contact form spam done by robots?

Would It be negative UX to have a field that must not be filled out. If filled out the form does not work? Perhaps it can be invisible to the user but would it still be visible to a robot? But what if it is a person filling out the forms? Thoughts?

Please advise. Thank you.

What a Boomerang Expert Taught Us about Multivariate Testing
