Exact Volume Restriction – Keyword Planner Jumps the Shark!

by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development

Google’s Keyword Planner, a once useful tool for the general public, has now been hobbled and is for the most part, useless. If you have an AdWords account and haven’t bought any ads recently, here is what you will be greeted with: This page shows ranges for search volumes. For a more detailed view, set up and run a campaign. Like everything else Google does, ultimately, it benefits Google. Sorry, the truth hurts. Now, Google wants you to start paying for AdWords campaigns if you want to use the original Keyword Planner tool. The Average Monthly searches, as indicated above display some very vague data ranges. Practically useless for those who research long tail keywords for search engine optimization (SEO) purposes. Here’s what Cassie at Google has to say about the issue: We recently made a change to Keyword Planner that shows search volume data ranges based on spend and how you use the tool. This change aims to prevent “bots” from submitting an overwhelming number of searches in Keyword Planner, which was slowing down the tool and occasionally causing errors that prevented people from using the tool. We’ve heard your feedback that this limited view of search volume makes […]

Working with an Indianapolis Web Design Firm to Upgrade the Business

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

Conventional wisdom would tell you that the biggest enterprises in the world should have the largest manpower, follow the best business models, and employ the latest technologies in their respective industries. Surprisingly, the truth is a bit off the mark as it’s been discovered that only two FTSE100 companies have a responsive web design—a feature that is endorsed by nearly all website design authorities today. Online publication The Drum also revealed that only 42 of these 100 big enterprises have a mobile website. So how come even the best companies don’t have the latest internet assets at their disposal, such as a responsive website? Well, there are actually plenty of reasons why a responsive web design hasn’t clicked, and the biggest one is that not everyone knows what it is. In layman’s terms, a responsive web design allows a website to seamlessly change itself according to how the user manipulates the web browser. For example, if the browser is enlarged, the website should follow suit and rearrange its images, graphics, and other elements in an intuitive manner that they don’t become a tangled mess. A responsive web design is one of the things reputable Indianapolis web design firms, like Indy […]

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. Should I Use Facebook Boosted Posts to Promote My Business?

by alpinewebmedia @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development

What are the pros and cons of Facebook Boosted Posts? Facebook has lessened organic reach and paid options are pretty much the way you reach more people. Facebook wants you to use the “Boost Post” button. As a matter of fact, they really try hard to get you to do it. First, you’ll get these Facebook boosted posts messages directly on your Facebook Business page if you have a post that’s getting a fairly decent amount of views. Soon after, you’ll also get a similar message in your email inbox, courtesy of Facebook. If you’re like most people, you will see this as a sign that your post is performing really well and by boosting it, it could stand a chance of going viral. It certainly is tempting to hit the Boost Post button at this point and sit back, waiting for your Facebook page to blossom with new found popularity. Unfortunately that doesn’t happen very often, if at all. When you boost your post you will get traffic as long as you pay, but the moment you stop paying, your traffic will eventually die down. Do Facebook boosted posts have any benefit at all? Yes. If you have a […]

Indianapolis Internet Marketing Professionals Discuss SEO Red Flags

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

There isn’t a business website that doesn’t want to be Number One on search engine results relating to their products and services. Sometimes, however, this leads to some businesses relying on questionable means to achieving that spot; such means could earn them penalties─ if not an outright ban─ from major search engines like Google. An About.com article by researcher Marziah Karch advises Indianapolis internet marketing professionals on what could lead to penalties and bans: “1. Cloaking You can design your website to be efficiently catalogued by Google, and you can specify which sites should be cached or ignored by Googlebots. Designing your Web site so that search engines see one thing and visitors see totally different content is called cloaking. This can be done with redirects or with programming, and it’s strictly verboten.” No likes falling for bait-and-switch tactics. It doesn’t matter if you think you’ll never be caught or if you think cloaking will give you any kind of edge over the competition; any surge in rankings you might enjoy will ultimately prove temporary, and that’s why experts from the likes of Indianapolis SEO Firm discourage cloaking. The second thing on Karch’s list of things to avoid is duplicate […]

Frustrated With Your Website and Internet marketing?

by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development

As the web becomes more complicated and crowded it’s easy to see why many business owners become frustrated with their website, social media and Internet marketing plans. Read below or contact us now at 802-233-3261 if you’d like to kick your web marketing campaign back into high gear. So why are so many business owners frustrated with their websites and web marketing? Here’s why: Back in the late 1990’s all you needed was a website. You could literally “set it and forget it”. Those were the glory days and early beginnings of websites. Most businesses didn’t have a clue about websites or email and getting a first page ranking in Yahoo (the number one search engine in pre-Google days) was relatively easy. Fast forward to 2017 where it seems everyone is on the web, fighting tooth and nail for the coveted first page search results in Google.  Social media evolved and everyone rushed to Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc., in an attempt to market their businesses online. Your Facebook Page Organic Posts is Actually Seen By Only 2% of Your Fans from Hubspot: A study from Edgerank Checker found that between February 2012 and March 2014, organic reach for the average […]

Writing for SearchEngineWatch.com, Eric Enge enumerates the predictions, as follows: The rise of Google’s Hummingbird engine: the newest SEO innovation is bound to have its’ presence felt this 2014 – with regards to more efficient processing of searches. The forecasts above are just some of the innovations that will make web-surfing deeper, broader, and much more comprehensive. While search engines are already efficiently publishing relevant results almost instantly, they are bound to only get better. Maybe you’re adding a blog or social media features to engage your audience. Whatever the case may be, it’s important that you’re being pro-active and taking full advantage of your website. First Impressions Matter: SEO Tips for Indianapolis Web Design Experts

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

Many business websites today─ especially those of businesses based in Indianapolis─ maintain blogs that provide useful information on their products and services. No one will find these blogs, however, if the website has not been properly search engine optimized. That’s why a Hongkiat.com article by blogger Issac Atia educates Indianapolis web design professionals on what to avoid: “1. Buying Links You might get a short term boost by buying links if your website is already popular, but you’re still taking a risk here. Paid links are sometimes flagged by Google’s search engine experts. You may wonder, how will they ever catch me? Well, Google’s bots and a special team at the company search for questionable linking patterns every single day!” Said bots and special team can detect suspicious links, especially those from categories that have nothing to do with the end site’s products or services. Indianapolis web development experts agree, however, that link buying shouldn’t be completely discouraged. Rather, those who insist on pursuing it should learn to inject variety into their anchor text. As important as content is, Atia also advises against neglecting a website’s looks. First impressions are often lasting ones, and if your website is an eyesore […]

7 Powerful Social Media Strategies You Need to Know Now!

by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development

Use These 7 Strategies to Master Social Media 1. Find Out Where Your Audience Is There are many different popular social media platforms on the web. Keep in  mind that when you’re first starting out, it’s not a good idea to jump in and try to master all of them. Focus only on the one or two main social sites that your audience tends to inhabit. Take the time to research and find out where your customers and potential customers are spending the majority of their time. Nearly everyone is on Facebook so that’s a logical place to start. You should also consider other sites such as Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest and others.  You do not have to take part in ALL of them. Make the most efficient use of your time only on the social media sites that your audience tends to gravitate to. 2. Building Authority Building your authority on social media platforms is essential. Help people by answering any questions they may have related to your industry or company. For instance, you can use Twitter to find people curious about subjects related to your product or service using Twitter search filters. Then, simply take a few […]

Why You Can’t Blame Your Website Sales Conversions

by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development

Remember the days of the “magical gold box” TV commercials? Back in the late 1990’s and into the 2000’s, there were a number of these obnoxious infomercials about magical websites that would sprout money within hours. The ads often were accompanied by a gold treasure chest, gleaming with gold coins. The entire point was that by buying (or more likely leasing) a website from these companies, you could make a fortune almost overnight, with very little effort on your part. As a web designer who started when the technology first became available, I found these “infomercials” unbelievably stupid. After all, who would be naive enough to think that simply having a website would make them rich? But oddly enough, a lot of people bought into the nonsense, though I doubt that very few made much money at all. 19th century “snake oil”, magic potions and elixirs alive and well near the end of the 20th century. Truly amazing! You don’t see the ubiquitous “gold box” ads on TV anymore, which is a bit of a blessing. However, the false impressions and influence created by them are still alive and well in 2017. Many people still think that simply having a […]

New Facebook Software that Auto-Responds to Comments

by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development

Credi Response does a great job of interacting with your Facebook audience without any dubious misdirection or tricks. Based upon a recommendation from another well known and highly respected Internet marketer, I decided to purchase Credi Response and give it a try. I’ve only had it for a couple days but I found it very easy to use. There’s nothing to install, as it runs as SAAS (software as a service), which means no issues with yet another WordPress plugin. Once I ordered, I received an email within just a few minutes with access to Credi Response along with some other free bonuses. There are also up-sells to a Pro version which you may want to consider. I found the Elite version sufficient enough for my needs. Here is a list of what Credi Response does: Sends a personal message to anyone who comments on your Facebook post. 100% automated. Just set up the message and It’ll be sent on autopilot. Send information, website links, or anything else you want. 100% Inboxing rate along with the message notification graphic and sound! Set up page level response, or specific responses to posts. Personalize with client name, date, day and more! Supports […]

Was Your WordPress Website Hacked?

by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development

Nothing is worse than a customer searching for your website, in a Google search and then seeing the dreaded words in the search results: “This website may have been hacked” If that’s the case then you had better start looking carefully at your website. In this post, we’re concentrating on WordPress websites. Although WordPress is the most popular content management system in the world (making it a prime target for hackers), the problem is equally an issue for Joomla, Drupal, ModX and other such CMS websites. They are all targets. The main issue stems from improper care and feeding of your website. In the days when “webmasters” ruled the land, only people with the knowledge to code and maintain websites had to deal with these issues. When you have someone properly qualified to maintain your website on a daily basis, it’s like having a security guard at the door. However in this day and age the security guard at the door may be someone assigned to light web content management tasks and Facebook posts, etc., rather than a trained professional web expert. In fact, the hackers are thrilled and have a much easier job of hacking a website, when there […]

3 Content Marketing Trends for 2017

by Clayton Johnson @ Clayton Johnson SEO

(Which You Can Use Today) Quality content is the foundation of a great online web presence. From your website to your blog posts, emails and more, every piece of content helps to create an impression on readers and search engines. Unfortunately, content doesn’t help your site overnight. Great content takes about six months to show an increase in traffic. Trust me, I understand – in the world of Internet marketing, six months can feel like forever! Often, Internet marketers become impatient and change course, even if there’s no evidence of success or failure. If you’re patient, however, your content marketing

Responsive Web Design in Indianapolis Improves User Accessibility

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

More and more people are accessing the Internet through their mobile devices, so it’s critical for websites to actually work on these mobile platforms to be any effective. Moreover, websites accessible on mobile gadgets must have the capability to adapt to the users’ unique search preferences. The Business 2 Community website has a curious news feature dated March 9, 2014 that discusses the importance of responsive web design, and how it helps localize the site for users. The article outlines the benefits of a responsive web design: “Responsive Web design is a hot topic—and it’s grabbed the attention of software developers, marketers and CEOs alike. (With the stats we mentioned earlier, it’s easy to see why.) But what is it exactly? In essence it’s a website design approach that allows your website to fluidly adapt for viewing on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. It has some pretty solid benefits: Responsive Web design creates a more positive user experience for mobile users. It helps your website load faster and makes websites easier to navigate on mobile devices. Websites designed this way—rather than having a separate landing page for mobile—are also favored by search engines, increasing your site’s findability. The concept goes […]

Local SEO: What’s New for 2017

by Clayton Johnson @ Clayton Johnson SEO

The internet moves pretty fast. That’s probably a pretty obvious observation, but it seems especially appropriate as 2017 marches forward. Local searches have changed significantly — and in just the past few years. Remember searching for a local business not even five years ago? You’d search using phrases like “car wash in Boston” or “pizza place near Los Angeles.” Today such long, specific phrases probably seem unwieldy and needlessly complex. You can find a location, including directions, just by entering one or two words into your mobile device. You might even be able to conduct a search using nothing but

How to Promote your Business Online Effectively

by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development

If your website isn’t generating the business leads you want, you are probably lazy! Are you offended? Great. Perhaps now that I’ve gotten your attention you will appreciate some “tough love” and words of wisdom. A website or social media campaign is NOT a “set it and forget it” infomercial Although most people mistakenly believe that simply having a website is the pathway to riches, it just is NOT true! Websites, social media and free ads are all tools. Simply owning a hammer doesn’t make you a master carpenter. Owning a website does not make you an Internet marketing tycoon! Make sure to promote your website address EVERYWHERE. That means on your business cards, work vehicles, e-mail signature, t-shirts, your dog’s collar, etc. This helps to build familiarity with your brand/business and when people have a need for the services, they will automatically think of you. Are you taking advantage of  free advertising? Post information about your business or services on free websites such as Craigslist, Front Porch Forum and any other place where you can post a link to your website for free. If possible ALWAYS include a good photo with your ad. People think visually rather than textual. […]

Social Media Marketing in Indianapolis: Basic Internet Rules Apply

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

Social media is acknowledged to be a convenient and very accessible way to network with friends and strangers alike. In the case of businesses, it is an ocean of opportunities that companies must try to comprehend to be able to tap for marketing purposes. Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have millions of subscribers, most—if not all—of whom can be considered potential customers for a product or service. While these sites provide utmost convenience in publishing content with one click and in promoting without charge to a wide margin of people, rules do exist to control their use as an advertising channel. In addition, these sites reside within the Internet environment, which has a preset system of doing things. Businesses need planning and guidance from online marketing specialists like Indy SEO Firm if they’re thinking of creating a credible and effective Internet marketing strategy. An article written by Jeff Bullas for the Business 2 Community website defines the advantages and challenges of social media marketing that companies should be aware of. Taking a quote from Steve Jobs, Bullas states that the basis of social media revolves around three simple components: “It’s unrivalled power to publish, market and communicate to […]

Maximize SEO in Indianapolis through Mobile-Responsive Website Design

by Joshua Roberson @ IndianapolisSEOFirm

Search engine optimization is important for a business website to earn high rankings in search engines and increase its online visibility. Emily Carter of Business 2 Community, however, emphasizes that SEO efforts should go hand in hand with quality content. “Content creation and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) are so closely related that they might as well be brother and sister. Having a content marketing strategy is so important for search engine rankings. These days, you cannot have one without the other.” A well-focused angle is critical to having top-notch web content. Still, how helpful will well-focused content be to SEO in Indianapolis if users are not able to view text or images ideally when they use their mobile devices to browse the website, and, instead, get distorted text or images? Another bad thing that can happen is that the website won’t load in smartphones or tablets at all. If these users have a bad experience with a website because it isn’t mobile-optimized, they are likely to turn away […]
