Structured Data

by Up Early Designs @ Up Early Designs

There's a really cool and really simple tool offered by Google, structured data. It essentially allows website owners to better communicate the "structure" of their "data" on a website. Why? So Google can better understand how your site data is to be read. And more importantly, better show your data in search. Structured Data So why structured data? Partly because as searchers our behaviors continue to evolve. As a society we seem to be impatient when it comes to waiting. Even an extra click or two agitates us. So Google is taking some clicks away. Rather than giving us links Continue Reading

Link Building - It's all about Quality. Or is it?

by @ Getinposition Search Engine Marketing Articles

Lately it seems as if all you hear about is link building: link building this, or link building that. You need links from .edu and .gov sites. You need relevant links. You need high quality links. Quality is more important than quantity. If you regularly tune into any website that watches search engines, or deals with search engine optimization then you know that much of the talk these days is link building. And one of my favorite topics is the whole discussion over link quality versus link quantity. Many people believe that link building is most effective when you build a select few high quality links, while others hold to the belief that more links is better. So the question becomes – which belief is correct?

Exact Volume Restriction – Keyword Planner Jumps the Shark!

by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development

Google’s Keyword Planner, a once useful tool for the general public, has now been hobbled and is for the most part, useless. If you have an AdWords account and haven’t bought any ads recently, here is what you will be greeted with: This page shows ranges for search volumes. For a more detailed view, set up and run a campaign. Like everything else Google does, ultimately, it benefits Google. Sorry, the truth hurts. Now, Google wants you to start paying for AdWords campaigns if you want to use the original Keyword Planner tool. The Average Monthly searches, as indicated above display some very vague data ranges. Practically useless for those who research long tail keywords for search engine optimization (SEO) purposes. Here’s what Cassie at Google has to say about the issue: We recently made a change to Keyword Planner that shows search volume data ranges based on spend and how you use the tool. This change aims to prevent “bots” from submitting an overwhelming number of searches in Keyword Planner, which was slowing down the tool and occasionally causing errors that prevented people from using the tool. We’ve heard your feedback that this limited view of search volume makes […]

Still Putting All of Your Eggs in Google's Basket?

by @ Getinposition Search Engine Marketing Articles

Google has become synonymous with searching the Internet. So much so that "googling" means to search for information online. When people try to improve their site's visibility, it's no surprise that they measure their success by their Google ranking. This perception is not unreasonable. Google is still the most popular search engine, used for about 46 percent of all searches [1], down from a high of 80 percent [2]. However, focusing all your efforts on Google means ignoring a large part of your potential audience. Yahoo is used for 22 percent of all searches, MSN for 13 [3], and both companies are positioning themselves for dominance of the search engine market. All three engines remain relevant when building a web marketing campaign.

How NOT to Manage Your Content

by @ Getinposition Search Engine Marketing Articles

When you are in the search marketing industry you often hear the phrase "content is king." This basically means that it is content (web pages, pdf's, word processing documents, spreadsheets etc.) which form the basis of the world wide web. It is these documents which search engines retrieve, index and rank, and it is these documents which people search for on a daily basis. I recently read a story where a well known website was going to remove literally thousands of pages from their website because there were few visitors to the pages. Now, this may seem like a sound reason to remove old pages. But in terms of search, this can be an incredible loss to your website that can ultimately affect your bottom line.

by @ Getinposition Search Engine Marketing Articles

As a search engine marketer, one of the most common phrases we hear when we ask “what do you want your online campaign to look like?” is “I want to be number 1 in Google.” And sometimes this is possible. Quite easy in fact. But most times it is not a realistic goal. At least not in the traditional SEO sense. So if you are one of these sites that has hundreds (or thousands or millions) of competitors online, just what can you do to achieve top spot in Google? In this article I look at alternatives to #1 organic or sponsored rankings in Google. Some ideas you've heard of but others you may not have.

Click Through Rates Simply defined, a click through rate is the rate in which someone clicks. So for say every hundred times your website appears in search, how many times does a user click on it? Five you say? Well your click through rate or CTR is 5%. Ten you say, well Continue Reading

How to Promote your Business Online Effectively

by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development

If your website isn’t generating the business leads you want, you are probably lazy! Are you offended? Great. Perhaps now that I’ve gotten your attention you will appreciate some “tough love” and words of wisdom. A website or social media campaign is NOT a “set it and forget it” infomercial Although most people mistakenly believe that simply having a website is the pathway to riches, it just is NOT true! Websites, social media and free ads are all tools. Simply owning a hammer doesn’t make you a master carpenter. Owning a website does not make you an Internet marketing tycoon! Make sure to promote your website address EVERYWHERE. That means on your business cards, work vehicles, e-mail signature, t-shirts, your dog’s collar, etc. This helps to build familiarity with your brand/business and when people have a need for the services, they will automatically think of you. Are you taking advantage of  free advertising? Post information about your business or services on free websites such as Craigslist, Front Porch Forum and any other place where you can post a link to your website for free. If possible ALWAYS include a good photo with your ad. People think visually rather than textual. […]

Credi Response does a great job of interacting with your Facebook audience without any dubious misdirection or tricks. Once I ordered, I received an email within just a few minutes with access to Credi Response along with some other free bonuses. There are also up-sells to a Pro version which you may want to consider. I found the Elite version sufficient enough for my needs. Here is a list of what Credi Response does: Sends a personal message to anyone who comments on your Facebook post. 100% automated. Just set up the message and It’ll be sent on autopilot. SEO As A Multi-Disciplinary Practice

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, sounds pretty niche-specific, doesn’t it?  If you’re a business administration person, it might sound as specialized as it is obscure.  SEO is like “front-end user interface developer”: techy and incomprehensible at the same time. If you’re a marketer, SEO might similarly be filed in the drawer marked “geek.” Many developers, […]
