Why You Can’t Blame Your Website Sales Conversions
by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development
Tue Jan 03 13:10:52 PST 2017
Remember the days of the “magical gold box” TV commercials? Back in the late 1990’s and into the 2000’s, there were a number of these obnoxious infomercials about magical websites that would sprout money within hours. The ads often were accompanied by a gold treasure chest, gleaming with gold coins. The entire point was that by buying (or more likely leasing) a website from these companies, you could make a fortune almost overnight, with very little effort on your part. As a web designer who started when the technology first became available, I found these “infomercials” unbelievably stupid. After all, who would be naive enough to think that simply having a website would make them rich? But oddly enough, a lot of people bought into the nonsense, though I doubt that very few made much money at all. 19th century “snake oil”, magic potions and elixirs alive and well near the end of the 20th century. Truly amazing! You don’t see the ubiquitous “gold box” ads on TV anymore, which is a bit of a blessing. However, the false impressions and influence created by them are still alive and well in 2017. Many people still think that simply having a […]

How Often Should I Redesign My Site?

I’m not crazy about shopping malls on Black Friday so I always look forward to the unbelievable deals on Internet marketing software that are MUCH less cost than during any other time of year. Here are the best deals I’ve found and will add more, as they become available. Many of these deals are Black Friday but many are also “evergreen” which means they will be around for awhile longer. Bottom line, if you need the product or service below, get it now. Sometimes the discounts change and you don’t want to miss out on the best deals. If you’re looking for ways to promote your website, automate social media and e-mail marketing, you’re in luck. Need a new domain name? Starting a new website or want to simply add a domain? Check out the Namecheap Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals. Get online for under $3! Web hosting for the do it yourself crowd. If you need to manage your own web hosting, I have used Hostgator in the past for several of my clients and it worked quite well. Blue Host is also a great, inexpensive web hosting solution as well. If you’d prefer manage web hosting, stick with Alpine […]

Was Your WordPress Website Hacked?
by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development
Tue Oct 04 12:06:18 PDT 2016
Nothing is worse than a customer searching for your website, in a Google search and then seeing the dreaded words in the search results: “This website may have been hacked” If that’s the case then you had better start looking carefully at your website. In this post, we’re concentrating on WordPress websites. Although WordPress is the most popular content management system in the world (making it a prime target for hackers), the problem is equally an issue for Joomla, Drupal, ModX and other such CMS websites. They are all targets. The main issue stems from improper care and feeding of your website. In the days when “webmasters” ruled the land, only people with the knowledge to code and maintain websites had to deal with these issues. When you have someone properly qualified to maintain your website on a daily basis, it’s like having a security guard at the door. However in this day and age the security guard at the door may be someone assigned to light web content management tasks and Facebook posts, etc., rather than a trained professional web expert. In fact, the hackers are thrilled and have a much easier job of hacking a website, when there […]

Frustrated With Your Website and Internet marketing?

As the web becomes more complicated and crowded it’s easy to see why many business owners become frustrated with their website, social media and Internet marketing plans. Read below or contact us now at 802-233-3261 if you’d like to kick your web marketing campaign back into high gear. So why are so many business owners frustrated with their websites and web marketing? Here’s why: Back in the late 1990’s all you needed was a website. You could literally “set it and forget it”. Those were the glory days and early beginnings of websites. Most businesses didn’t have a clue about websites or email and getting a first page ranking in Yahoo (the number one search engine in pre-Google days) was relatively easy. Fast forward to 2017 where it seems everyone is on the web, fighting tooth and nail for the coveted first page search results in Google. Social media evolved and everyone rushed to Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc., in an attempt to market their businesses online. Your Facebook Page Organic Posts is Actually Seen By Only 2% of Your Fans from Hubspot: A study from Edgerank Checker found that between February 2012 and March 2014, organic reach for the average […]

Google has always vouched for positive search engine optimization, and has brought in new algorithms to reward genuine sites. The search engine giant has always introduced updates to make individual pages more accessible and faster to find.
On April 24, 2012 Google activated the new ranking algorithm called Penguin to punish sites that relied on excessive link building, deceptive doorway pages, keyword-stuffed pages, and low quality content for driving traffic.
This ushered in a good change for businesses and entrepreneurs who were legitimately trying to get good rankings without looking for ugly games. It took time before Google could implement the algorithm [...]

Should I Use Facebook Boosted Posts to Promote My Business?
by alpinewebmedia @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development
Fri Aug 11 06:08:58 PDT 2017
What are the pros and cons of Facebook Boosted Posts? Facebook has lessened organic reach and paid options are pretty much the way you reach more people. Facebook wants you to use the “Boost Post” button. As a matter of fact, they really try hard to get you to do it. First, you’ll get these Facebook boosted posts messages directly on your Facebook Business page if you have a post that’s getting a fairly decent amount of views. Soon after, you’ll also get a similar message in your email inbox, courtesy of Facebook. If you’re like most people, you will see this as a sign that your post is performing really well and by boosting it, it could stand a chance of going viral. It certainly is tempting to hit the Boost Post button at this point and sit back, waiting for your Facebook page to blossom with new found popularity. Unfortunately that doesn’t happen very often, if at all. When you boost your post you will get traffic as long as you pay, but the moment you stop paying, your traffic will eventually die down. Do Facebook boosted posts have any benefit at all? Yes. If you have a […]

How to Promote your Business Online Effectively
by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development
Mon Mar 20 06:20:19 PDT 2017
If your website isn’t generating the business leads you want, you are probably lazy! Are you offended? Great. Perhaps now that I’ve gotten your attention you will appreciate some “tough love” and words of wisdom. A website or social media campaign is NOT a “set it and forget it” infomercial Although most people mistakenly believe that simply having a website is the pathway to riches, it just is NOT true! Websites, social media and free ads are all tools. Simply owning a hammer doesn’t make you a master carpenter. Owning a website does not make you an Internet marketing tycoon! Make sure to promote your website address EVERYWHERE. That means on your business cards, work vehicles, e-mail signature, t-shirts, your dog’s collar, etc. This helps to build familiarity with your brand/business and when people have a need for the services, they will automatically think of you. Are you taking advantage of free advertising? Post information about your business or services on free websites such as Craigslist, Front Porch Forum and any other place where you can post a link to your website for free. If possible ALWAYS include a good photo with your ad. People think visually rather than textual. […]

7 Powerful Social Media Strategies You Need to Know Now!
by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development
Thu Aug 11 08:25:25 PDT 2016
Use These 7 Strategies to Master Social Media 1. Find Out Where Your Audience Is There are many different popular social media platforms on the web. Keep in mind that when you’re first starting out, it’s not a good idea to jump in and try to master all of them. Focus only on the one or two main social sites that your audience tends to inhabit. Take the time to research and find out where your customers and potential customers are spending the majority of their time. Nearly everyone is on Facebook so that’s a logical place to start. You should also consider other sites such as Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest and others. You do not have to take part in ALL of them. Make the most efficient use of your time only on the social media sites that your audience tends to gravitate to. 2. Building Authority Building your authority on social media platforms is essential. Help people by answering any questions they may have related to your industry or company. For instance, you can use Twitter to find people curious about subjects related to your product or service using Twitter search filters. Then, simply take a few […]

Page Importance is an algorithm that determines a score used by Google to classify urls during crawl sessions. Page Importance ranges urls to be explored in order to optimize the crawl budget affected to each site.
To better distribute its crawl expenses, Google needs to prioritize pages it needs to fetch. In that logic of cost optimization, the Mountain View firm has published many patents about crawls scheduling. These patents let us know better understand how your pages are categorized and give perspective to the crawl budget concept – a concept that is differently observed regarding each site, typologies of pages [...]

by btvbill @ Vermont Web Design, Web Hosting and Development
Mon Dec 19 06:46:04 PST 2016
The beginning of a new year is always a great time to consider a new website design. Perhaps you have an older website that needs some sprucing up both technically and aesthetically. Maybe you’re adding a blog or social media features to engage your audience. Whatever the case may be, it’s important that you’re being pro-active and taking full advantage of your website. Here are 9 things that you need in order to implement a great, new website design that will grow traffic, influence your audience and make your business stand out. 1. Your domain name is important because it reflects your branding and should be as close to your business name as possible. Try not to use hyphens if at all possible. Although there are now many domain extensions available these days, stick with the the 3 most important, in the following order: .com, .net and .org (if you are running an organization. If you are running a bonafide educational institution then a .edu extension is also appropriate. No need to buy up a bunch of the same domains with different extensions, simply to get an advantage with the search engines. That no longer works these days so save […]

Exact Volume Restriction – Keyword Planner Jumps the Shark!

Fri Sep 09 05:50:22 PDT 2016
Google’s Keyword Planner, a once useful tool for the general public, has now been hobbled and is for the most part, useless. If you have an AdWords account and haven’t bought any ads recently, here is what you will be greeted with: This page shows ranges for search volumes. For a more detailed view, set up and run a campaign. Like everything else Google does, ultimately, it benefits Google. Sorry, the truth hurts. Now, Google wants you to start paying for AdWords campaigns if you want to use the original Keyword Planner tool. The Average Monthly searches, as indicated above display some very vague data ranges. Practically useless for those who research long tail keywords for search engine optimization (SEO) purposes. Here’s what Cassie at Google has to say about the issue: We recently made a change to Keyword Planner that shows search volume data ranges based on spend and how you use the tool. This change aims to prevent “bots” from submitting an overwhelming number of searches in Keyword Planner, which was slowing down the tool and occasionally causing errors that prevented people from using the tool. We’ve heard your feedback that this limited view of search volume makes […]

Going Social – Can You Really Drive New Customers With Social Media? These days you have to go out of your way to avoid Social Media. New Facebook Software that Auto-Responds to Comments

Credi Response does a great job of interacting with your Facebook audience without any dubious misdirection or tricks. Based upon a recommendation from another well known and highly respected Internet marketer, I decided to purchase Credi Response and give it a try. I’ve only had it for a couple days but I found it very easy to use. There’s nothing to install, as it runs as SAAS (software as a service), which means no issues with yet another WordPress plugin. Once I ordered, I received an email within just a few minutes with access to Credi Response along with some other free bonuses. There are also up-sells to a Pro version which you may want to consider. I found the Elite version sufficient enough for my needs. Here is a list of what Credi Response does: Sends a personal message to anyone who comments on your Facebook post. 100% automated. Just set up the message and It’ll be sent on autopilot. Send information, website links, or anything else you want. 100% Inboxing rate along with the message notification graphic and sound! Set up page level response, or specific responses to posts. Personalize with client name, date, day and more! Supports […]
